Usage figures of mORMot

Hi guys,

I know there's a thread dealing with this, but it only has 3 replies! Surely mORMot is used much more widely than that! You don't need to give details or specifications, we just want to get an idea of how widely mORMot is being used out there.

Re: Usage figures of mORMot

Hi,

That showcase thread doesn't necessarily represents the mORMot adoption status by the  Delphi community.

The Delphi community is a small one when compared to mainstream languages such as Java and C#, that being said, you might be able to have a feel by looking at:
- The stars of the github repository (https://github.com/synopse/mORMot);
- How active this forum is.
- How active the development of the project (check the commits of the above-mentioned github repository).

Delphi XE4 Pro on Windows 7 64bit.
Lazarus trunk built with fpcupdelux on Windows with cross-compile for Linux 64bit.

Thanks edwinsn.

I understand that, but was looking for some firepower to use in the boardroom. I'm specifically interested in large scale enterprise level projects.

Re: Usage figures of mORMot

I usually do not have feedback from users, only if they need new features, or find an issue.

From time to time, I have direct feedback from users, using mORMot in high production environments.
The usual feedback is that once you are used to how mORMot works, you are very productive, and the resulting applications are pretty stable and very fast, even when compared with high-end pricey solutions.
The learning curve is a bit higher if you come from a RAD background, but once you have found your way - especially thanks to the samples - they are very pleased with the results.

But it sounds like if most users are "shy" about giving testimonials.
Only a few did take the time to notify their project in the http://synopse.info/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1954 forum thread.
I do not know why. Perhaps because Open Source is not very trendy within the Delphi ecosystem, which was used to use (highly) priced closed softwares, either from Embarcadero, or from 3rd parties.

This is why any additional feedback is welcome!

If you want to have arguments to your board, take a look at https://www.openhub.net/p/mormot
The https://www.openhub.net/p/mormot/estimated_cost page is easy to understand: if you use mORMot, you are very likely to invest of a huge proven code base, so would have immediate ROI!
If you can see in mORMot the tools you need, using it may help saving $3,789,656 in respect to an in-house solution.
wink

The main point is about leverage existing skills of your team, using your Delphi and business knowledge.
mORMot is just a tool, with a DDD/SOLID strong design, to write small or big server applications.
It unleashes the power of Delphi, especially in terms of performance and stability, when compared to VM/GC-based solutions (like in C# or Java).
IMHO your real company value is in your coding teams: the framework aims to let you focus on your business, letting the plumbing be done for you.

If you want something to support Delphi in general this review could be useful:

Apparently this USA government department saved almost $500000 in annual SAP licences by moving to Delphi and also got a system which their users found better than anything they'd used before.

@esmondb I'm almost sure that this "Delphi Financial System" has anything to do with our Delphi environment.

Re: Usage figures of mORMot

@ab yes, I think I got the wrong end of the stick. This delphi looks like an ERP from Oracle.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) from SAP and Oracle and more recently from www.odoo.com seem like an attractive alternative to company boards. They seem to be targeting their current marketing to SMEs.  I guess the main benefit of our Delphi is the 'tailor made' aspect, perhaps especially in the area of UI.

Darn it. I skim read it, and it seemed appropriate.
