Windows 7 64bit. Delphi XE10.2 Professional.

That'll be a disaster for the mORMot project and its users.
Delphi XE4 Pro on Windows 7 64bit.
Lazarus trunk built with fpcupdelux on Windows with cross-compile for Linux 64bit.

Embarcardero did know about mORMot since years.
But they have they own products: DataSnap, RadServer... you can judge the feature set, performance, and price policy.
So they always saw mORMot as a "competitor", and even refused to include it into the GetIt package...
In fact, mORMot runs with a Delphi Starter edition!
And they expect users to pay the full Architect edition to make some Client/Server process...
Regarding mORMot, it is currently on hold as it is not in line with GetIt
policies. We’ve asked internally to double check this, but we really don’t
want to have customers using GetIt adding to Delphi Professional
capabilities that are in the “Enterprise” space. I know what you have
written about this, but this has always been the case in the product since
day one. Even if our license can be bypassed in a "formally legal" way, it
does mean we are happy about it and will incentivate it. Delphi Pro is a
product for those who don’t need client/server database connectivity.

Currently, I'm rather putting my interest and efforts into FPC premium support.
It is a much better compiler than Delphi NextGen, and - at least - it doesn't change the memory model to ARC, which may be good for Swift/ObjectiveC, but is a huge compatibility breaker in respect to regular Delphi code.
For instance, we support Linux since years using FPC, but we don't want to support Delphi Linux compiler.
In the next years, I will spend time to work closer with the FPC team, for platform and compiler support.
It is worth noting that Embarcadero was very open and reactive when we identified some issue with the Win64 compiler.
See http://blog.synopse.info/post/2017/03/2 … C64-broken
So they are not "against" mORMot, they just don't want to integrate it.
From your point of view, the cross-platform clients will work with any Delphi compilers, ARC or non ARC.
For the server side, we will always continue to provide compatibility with Delphi non ARC compiler. If written properly, you can write and debug your mORMot server code with Delphi under Windows, then use FPC to compile it under Linux, and Lazarus to debug it natively under Linux!
So no, we won't be acquired by Embarcadero, because it doesn't make sense from their point of view, and ours.

FPC is the way to go I am migrating my projects to it. Compiler is getting strong and native cross-platform cross-architecture support. Some day in the future FPC will be the natural replacement to Delphi. IMHO.

On a new project using mORMot, I will work full day using FPC under Linux...
Of course, I will continue to maintain compatibility with Delphi and Windows.
Just my two cents...

The mORMot acquisition by Embarcadero would be the worst event on my whole life.

My two cents: if Delphi was cared for the way AB looks after the mORMot Delphi would be far ahead in quality and functionality by now. There is so much difference in mentality, I do not think they would be compatible.
